1. First and foremost, a gift is something you give to someone because you care about them. A thoughtless gift only shows how thoughtless you are.
2. Give a gift that means something to the receiver, not the giver. (If she collects cats, give her something with a cat on it, not a bear)
3. You can give an inexpensive gift, only, if it will have special meaning to the receiver.
4. Appliances and household items are not gifts.
5. Gag gifts are not meant for someone you love unless a diamond comes with it.
6. Gold jewelry and gemstones are always a good gift.
7. Only give clothes when you are sure of the correct size and style of the receiver.
8. Don't give shoes as a gift. They will use them to walk out on you later.
9. Gifts don't always have to be given at holidays and special occasions. They should be given just because you care.
10. Flowers delivered to the office is always a good gift and a nice surprise. Plus it makes everyone else in the office just a little jealous.
11. Do not give live animals as gifts unless the receiver has already chosen the specific pet. 
12. An overnight getaway at an exclusive bed and breakfast can be a great gift.
13. A dinner out is not the gift. It is a nice prequel to the actual gift. 
14. Gifts do not become loans when you break up.
15. Finally, once given, you can't ask for a gift back when you break up. So, when dating, only give a gift you can afford to payoff prior to its presentation.
