Poetry by Barbara Foster/Belladonna

MONDAYS ARE MONI

At the moon’s crest I fly to Moni
In his lair, I roar
Outdoing the fierce lion
Simulating the hungry tiger
To bite and claw gentle masks away

Implant your fangs frothing dog
Caged on Charlton street
Yelp in the night of blood drawn
If the scorpion’s kisses sting
Your juice injects tangy venom
I drink like wine

Sun lifts the couch’s dank odors
Light plays across flaccid, spent thighs
I stir to paint on my personality
A creature barely upright
Half belonging to humanity.

LION TAMER

The cage door swings open
Pawing and sniffing, I
   bound in
Assume my perch
Fluff my whiskers

We eye each other
   wary
Tamer and jungle beast
Docile as a pussycat,
   crouched
I evade whiplashes
Crisping the air

Circling, then closing in
Belly to belly, almost
I retreat, obey commands
My body springing, an
   acrobat

A maneater, I scent
   danger
Grinding tooled teeth
Will I gobble your taunts,
   master
Tame the tamer?

NO FOUR WALLS NO ROMANCE

I don’t care if your prick
Stretches from the Village to 14th
Forget the argument
Do you have an apartment?

There’s no use blabbering
Of things we’ve in common
Don’t bother to phone
If you don’t live alone

Life’s to fleet for games
Fumbling hands and long subway
    rides
If you live in Great Neck
I’ll take a rain check

If you’ve no apartment
Call another number
Save your randy advances
For more auspicious romances.

Calling All Men....

Calling all Men
Grown and Sexy
Calling all Men
Who can hold down a job,
keep a job,
Follow up with good conversation,
Calling all Men
Someone who smells good dresses good
Calling all Men
One that comes with benefits,
even a Debit Card will do.
Adventurous
Big trips, little trips
anyplace will do
Sometimes we can even go Dutch,
Just be Resourceful when we do
Calling all Men,
Do you know how to please a woman?
A mature man should fit these qualifications
Calling all men,
Are you a man that can hold his own?
walks in the room with confidence
I just ask, cause some men don't? ..
Are you a Missionary man,
or a round the way man?
Calling All Men,
Do you have a car?
You don’t have too,
But it sure would be nice!
cuz, I don't don’t like walking in the winter
and being hot in the summer
Calling All Men
Do you live with your Momma,
Or are you coming home to me
Calling all Men,
Do you come with a Spiritual Body?
Do you focus on some type of Morals,
Spiritual Beliefs
Well if you do,
This is a Want Ad
Calling All Men
Are you gonna to answer  this ad, or not?

IF MY MAN WERE FROM MARS

If my man were from Mars
The same sparkle would be in his eyes
when he touched me, held me, kissed me
like the first time we met
When I walked in the door,
he would greet me with pink roses
he would ask, how was your day, Beautiful
he would want me to be relaxed for him.
scents of Lavender and Chamomile oils in our hot tub
a glass of herbal tea, or perhaps a glass of  Red Wine
"A good woman deserves to be pampered"
his exact words, if I remember.
he would listen to my words, like branches
on a learning tree, devouring each word.
But in reality,
my man is not from Mars,
he is from Planet Earth

DRUNK FROM YOUR LOVE  by Lenora Trice

Let me tell you what I would like to do
I would like to love you; to love all of you
And since we have this bottle of wine
Allow me to start by pouring it all over your body
Over your chest and stomach area, too
And when I reach the South Pole
You'll know what I plan to do

Just let me lick it all off
Lick 'til I get drunk
Even if it takes all night
Lay back and relax
I promise you everything will be all right
Yes, darlin'
I want to get drunk from your love
I want to get REAL drunk!
I mean DRUNK!!

A Queen's Desire

Royalty, surrounds me
all this putting on heirs,
all I ask from you
maybe a secret rendezvous,
explore some secret places
It can be so simple for you
if you don't break the rules of a
A Queen's Desire

I need you to caress me
specially treated
engrave your name all over my body
caress those places that I'll never see
I need you to want me more
than you ever thought of
love me, because i am the only woman

All i ask is from you,
to make our love simple
yet, you make it is so complex
Why can't this Queen's desire be fulfilled?

You know, a simple kiss would do
I'll wait for the rest
Your hands knew every place on my body
memories of your touch,
lingers each time you go away
The hidden spot under my dress
misses you, needs you
feels you even when you are not there

A Queen's Desire, right now
is to have you
talk to you,
hear your deep voice
keep you around
share laughter like we use to
fingers entwined
bed sheets feeling the flesh of our bodies

A Queen's Desire,
see the lines in your face when you smile
feels the beard on your face upon my neck,
I shake, from thinking about the thrill
my ears, your soft sweet tantalizing whispers
I still shivering with each hot breath you give

A Queen's Desire
is you expressing, that everything
will be ok,
you will still be here
the broad shoulders, I cry on
those tall legs
broad shoulders,
lifting me in the air like a child,
telling me we are gonna be ok
hearing you say, no more tears
I'm here to stay

A Queen's Desire is to hear you say
once again, you are my Queen
everything i need, is within you.
I need to taste your sap,
give you all of me

I am that Queen
You can be my king
have all your heart desires
But you have to come correct
This is a plea of a Queen's Desire

I'll Do It...Tomorrow by Lenora Trice

I meant to tell you I love you
but you already know I do
At least I thought you knew

When you walked out the door
I had no idea I would see you no more
Now my heart is breaking
over the frivolous fight we had
Words exchanged between us
were spoken when we were mad

After you left and I had cooled down
I knew what happened was wrong
We all have problems of one kind or another
but this situation spiraled out of control

The phone call I received tore me apart
and stilled my beating heart
The voice on the other end
sent me into a spin

The news was more than I could bear
and not what I expected to hear
My heart is filled with great sorrow
I was going to tell you I love you
I was going to do it...tomorrow

Sister Friend, Why

Sister, Friend, Why!
Sister, friend, you are so beautiful.
Why do you let him put you down?
Yelling, screaming, hitting, insults, cries of pain.
Sister, friend, you are a child of God.
When are you going to let go and give it to God?
Start walking, run, don't turn back.
Jesus is holding His hand out, smile and say, I am free.
Go, sister, friend, positive energy, laughing, smiling,
Beautiful face, tall and erect stature.
Welcome back, there goes my friend.
Welcome back....

Dedicated to a special girlfriend

By Adrienne ClarkStrachn

Don't wanna say goodbye...

You've been here for 2 days

Time has caught up with us

There is nothing to do no one to blame

For work u must do

And going away is not an option

Don't wanna say goodbye...

You pack up your things

bit by bit goes in

you see the pain in my eyes

try to assure me that it will be okay

but it won't because

you will be on your way in 15 minutes

Don't wanna say goodbye...

Time flies by and its time for you to go

they say the last kiss is the worst

they call it the kiss of death

you walk toward the door

offer me one last kiss

we kiss like we never kissed before

knowing it will be sometime until we can be back together

don't wanna say goodbye... but time waits for no man so goodbye my love.

Soft As A Rose

Beneath this red lace robe
I am wearing a sheer piece of lingerie
Under my lingerie I am covered with oils
Oil for concentration
Oil for circulation
Oil for relaxation
The aroma I have
Is that of a garden
And oh my love
I beg you
Touch me, touch me
For I am soft as a rose.

My Sweat
By Evelyn O. Simon

Look at my face
Full of sweat
I lift my head towards the sun
Asking "is this the hottest it'll get?"
Hot sticky sweat lingers on my skin
Feelings of frustration develops within
My man, all of a sudden wants to cuddle
My children's screams from play
Has my nerves all in a bundle.
My man whines, "honey I love you"
And I'm in need
I relatiate, "well what about me?"
My sweat continues to spill from my pores
As my life reveals itself in scores
This is my sweat

Love Me and Leave Me
By Evelyn O. Simon

Love me and leave me
Take me away and free me
Come to my rescue
This is what you should do

Love me until I cry
Why do I cry?
I don’t know why

Come into my world
I want to know
Am I your only girl?
Love me like your favorite sport
But don’t get out of sort

Love me and leave me
Embrace my heart
Then set it free

Life Is Beautiful
By Ginnie Hardy

The beauty of it all is life
Life is Beautiful
Even more beautiful when you look in the mirror and see a reflection of accomplishments of self
More, than, yesterday
You see, I believe we have as adults all been treated bad in one way or another
But to be able to talk about is the first step and that is called the
Realization of a situation
taking a stand on your wants, your demands
Profiling to the best of you ability
stop procrastinating
just vent you mentalities without hesitation
No instructions needed
Plead no more
Walk through that door
Let's not ignore
Our interior talents and stay balanced
This is your LIFE....claim it.

Naturalism: A State of Consciousness

By Dorinda Tatum

“Looking back I realize by relaxing my hair, I was relaxing into my scalp envy, self-hatred, and I in particular loathed my skin complexion.

I spent years in an illusion attempting to cover the beauty society considered as unattractive. I was determined to conform to society’s standard of beauty. I began to indulge in a pattern of self-destructive behavior.

Self-love anthems played no major part in my musical debut. I would only consider casting members who identified with the European standards. Running from my truth, I instantly disconnected myself from my inner spirit, a spirit trying desperately to reintroduce itself to the core of my soul.

My spirit started screaming, “SET ME FREE.” Leaving me no other choice but to surrender to the chaos of my soul, at last my journey to recovery began.

Once I began to focus on what appeared to be a sense of emotional freedom, I decided to incorporate some radical changes, beginning with my hair.  Once my hair was no longer an issue my spirit decided to reconnect with my soul.

The burden of feeling unattractive was deleted from my subconscious library.  I no longer viewed my dark skin as a curse.  I realized my complexion was a direct blessing from our Creator, symbolizing strength, courage, and integrity.  I felt a magnitude of empowerment invading my spirit.

God was allowing me to seek His true purpose for my life. By releasing the poison applied to my scalp, I began to experience the freedom to seek my truth. Truths, which can only be, determine by the pure essence of my soul.

Each waking day is embraced with the acknowledgement that God has the power to transform any situation. I am so grateful to our Creator, for who I am, and for giving me the courage to embrace my kinky hair. Naturalism is the acceptance of our inner voice connecting us to our spirit to reclaim our power.

Each of us can search within and claim our true destiny. Embracing naturalism has allowed me to seek my truth. I am a beautiful African-American woman.  I thank God for setting me free so that I can be exactly what our Creator have chosen for me to be. I am free to be me!”

THAT’S ME

BY DORINDA TATUM

My skin is not light. It is dark
You wonder why.
My hair is not straight. It is kinky.
You wonder how.
My lips are not thin. They are full.
You laugh so loud.
But I say to you, I am truly proud
Of who I am.
Because the truth lies with my ancestors who died
So I can feel free
In expressing my beauty, no one else seems to see
When I look into the mirror.
You wonder what I see.
I see my dark skin,
My kinky hair,
My full lips,
I see a beautiful, enchanting African-American Woman
That’s me!
